Stuttgart, Germany, is the headquarter. The brand BOSCH was founded by Robert Bosch in 1886 and was the first company to produce oxygen sensors in 1976. The Volvo 240/260-series was the first passenger car that was equipped with the new Bosch oxygen sensor that same year.

With the development of exhaust gasoline engines, Denso’s light duty oxygen sensor began to appear on the automobile. The sensor’s primary function is to monitor the combustion process at idle, moderate velocity, and cruise speeds.

Bosch vs Denso Oxygen Sensors: Which one to buy?

To be honest, I deny there is much of a difference in terms of life or quality between the two brands. Both are excellent brands.

Nonetheless, Bosch did invent the oxygen sensor and modern electronic fuel injection. Perhaps I should not say “invented,” but rather “made practical and cost effective.” In fact, Toyota’s first fuel injection systems were actually licensed from Bosch.

Personally, as the first O2 sensor in my 2003 Camry setup, I use a Bosch replacement O2 sensor. In fact, except for the one under warranty on my Dad’s Tacoma and Mom’s Tundra, every individual O2 sensor that has ever been restored on our vehicles has been Bosch.

In my experience, you get about 50,000-80,000 miles on average before either the sensor or the wires harness for the sensor fails. This is true for both OEM and aftermarket models. Sure, I’ve had a few go 150,000 miles, but those are extremely rare!

On the other hand, I have seen my friends and relatives using the Denso oxygen O2 sensor, and they can’t complain about it.

In short, which one you should choose is entirely dependent on you. Just keep 3 facts in your mind while choosing-

  1. Budget
  2. The manufacturing of your vehicle and
  3. Your preferences.

However, because both brands are well-known, you can be confident that you will get what you paid for.

Pro tip: One thing I’ve discovered is that, no matter what brand you choose, you should always replace kind with kind. For example, don’t mix a new Bosch rear with an old Denso front, and so on. Either go all Bosch O2 or all Denso.
